ELECTRIC DEPOT
HISTORIC RENOVATION - BATON ROUGE, LA

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Electric Depot, formerly known as the Baton Rouge Electric Company (BRECO), is a historic site that highly contributed in the city’s explosive growth during the first half of the 20th century. Built in 1915, the power plant was Baton Rouge’s primary electric generator until 1930, at which time the city’s demand outgrew the plant’s capacity. Although new power plants were built to meet the city's demand, the BRECO became the utility company’s operational headquarters, a role it played for more than fifty years.
PROJECT SCOPE
The 3.165 ac. area comprises four existing structures of primarily masonry construction. The renovation plans are meant to transform this historic power plant into a one of a kind destination in the heart of Baton Rouge.
